Ruth's Diner Description:
In 1930, an attitudinal ex-cabaret singer opened up a burger stand in downtown Salt Lake City. Three-quarters of a century, two ownership changes, and one move (to the current location in historic Emigration Canyon) later, the place is a bona fide local legend. People willingly drive ten minutes out of town and wait a half-hour for Ruth's old-fashioned, home-style food. Three-egg omelets, breakfast burritos, banana-walnut French toast and other goodies come with potatoes and the signature Mile High biscuits. Breakfast is served till 4 p.m. every day. For dinner, we recommend a burger, Ruth's meat loaf or, if you really crave Old Country cooking, a helping of homemade chicken and dumplings. Everything's made from scratch on-site. The Thursday evening barbecues held in the summer should not be missed.
