Saint Louis Tap Room Description:
In an old building in the burgeoning downtown Loft district, Tom Schlafly and company have put together a microbrewery that's on its way to macrohood. Beers are wide-ranging in flavor and always hearty; the brewers have mastered more than 50 styles, rotating them year-round to supplement the half-dozen regular offerings. The food is tasty and bound to get better with the arrival of Andy White, well-known locally for his use of seasonal ingredients. Appetizers are pub food, not bar food---the soups are good, especially the white chili infused with pale ale. Many dishes have the house brews worked in, as in barleywine vinaigrette on the caramelized pear salad. The highlight of the sandwiches is the smoked liverwurst (made locally). Topnotch fish 'n' chips equal anything in Blighty, and the fries exceed same by a couple of miles. Ask for the house-made spicy ketchup to go with them. Desserts don't get any better than the sticky toffee pudding, a square of warm, spicy cake with a toffee sauce and a generous blob of whipped cream.
