Most of the time, Mike Shannon's comes off as an upscale steakhouse full of glittering people sitting amid glass-fronted cabinets where baseballs, bats and jerseys repose as objets d'art. But come game day, a thousand red-clad fans pack The Outfield, the casual outdoor patio facing Busch Stadium. The restaurant's namesake, a former Cardinals third baseman, still does his sports show from the restaurant after Friday home games, and his family still runs day-to-day operations. The menu is full of American classics like New England clam chowder and club sandwiches (lunchtime only), as well as the expected high-quality beef and fish. Expect huge portions, standout first-course mussels and top-quality steaks. Service shines, and bartending is topnotch.
