Liluma Description:
Liluma has shaken its reputation as the younger sibling of The Crossing---in fact, after owner-chef Jim Fiala added Acero a few years ago, Liluma became a middle child. But the elegant bistro stands on its own quite well, thank you very much. Located at the axis of the Central West End, it sports big windows and has a large outdoor seating area. Especially intriguing is the first course of roasted Missouri mushrooms with Brie; pastas include pappardelle with duck confit and butternut squash. Most of the menu items riff on American faves with some forays into French and Italian, so expect to find roast chicken with pomme purée or zuppa de pesce (scallops, shrimp and mussels in white wine and tomatoes). However, its local claim to fame is for a far less exotic dish: tasty fries alongside a lunchtime burger. Servers come off as enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about what they offer, and the wine list is first-rate. There's a prix-fixe menu offered for $25.
