The Crossing Description:
Here you can get a fine meal with less intimidating service than you'll find in some of the grander places around town. Not only that, but the noise level is more comfortable than at the myriad of larger restaurants. That said, it's still a place where you can see limos parked out front and the city's movers and shakers tucked into the creamy dining room. Beware the blue cheese soufflé placed on your table shortly after arrival; it's addictive and appetite-sating unless there are at least three of you to fight for it. Good first courses include a roasted beet and goat cheese salad as well as foie gras with seasonal fruit, the foie gras crisp on the outside and melting inside. And this is what gnocchi are supposed to be, light and sensuous, served creatively with a rich braise of pork belly and pea sprouts. Fish is well-handled and wide-reaching. Best of all, chef Jim Fiala makes his dishes available at three prix-fixe levels, guaranteeing that you'll save room for dessert. For the adventurous, there's rhubarb soup with yogurt soufflé; those seeking comfort will want the warm chocolate torte with vanilla ice cream.
