If---and it's a big if---you catch BARcelona on a quiet night, it might be a pretty romantic spot for a date. It's small, dark and rustic, enough so that all but the most jaded lawyers at the nearby county courthouse might, just for a moment, forget they were in Missouri. But most nights a more boisterous crowd stops by for a couple of drinks and nibbles like garlic shrimp or mussels in spicy tomato sauce. If they pay attention to their plates, they may be surprised by just how tasty the tapas can be. If they don't pay attention, however, they'll be surprised at how quickly the tab creeps up as the evening moves along. The inevitable tortilla española is traditionally stodgy, but paella and things like marinated anchovies and an assortment of sausages are downright seductive. Good Spanish wines help them go down easily.
