Cyrano's Coffee Cafe & Dessert Description:
St. Louisans deserve their reputation for having a sweet tooth, and Cyrano's chef-owner Carolyn Downs is well known for her ability to sate (or should that be "stoke"?) their sugar cravings. Even if you're not having dessert first, you'll want to keep it in mind when ordering the light portions of sandwiches and salads or the small-plate appetizers. The savory fare, tasty as it is, is a mere opening act for desserts like the flambés for two or the Cleopatra, a concoction of ice cream and fruit and rum sauce and whipped cream so over-the-top that to call it a sundae doesn't seem fair. The pastries also are first-rate, from the pumpkin gooey butter cake (a seasonal riff on a local favorite) to the caramel-brioche bread pudding.
