Vietnamese restaurants pepper South Grand; diners distinguish them by their idiosyncrasies. Mekong is notable for its fresh dishes as well as its split-personality dining rooms: the front is a decorous restaurant, the back feels like an Internet café, and the second-floor bar, Upstairs Lounge, is where DJs cater to a young hipster crowd. Dishes like chicken marinated in "special" sauce and thit kho tieu pork, which feels almost like carnitas, can be quite good. However, if the kitchen is busy, plan on a long wait.
