Catfish Place, The Description:
Opened 25 years ago by native Floridians, The Catfish Place is the place for Florida Cracker seafood. (Cracker is a nickname for Florida's original settlers.) Travel down busy U.S. Hwy. 192, past the Silver Spurs rodeo grounds, to sleepy St. Cloud, and you'll spot the eatery in a nondescript brown building right on the main drag. Most of the locals go for the fresh, all-you-can-eat catfish, but we like the Florida Cracker Special, a plate heaped with fried catfish, frogs' legs, soft-shell turtle and gator tail. The less adventurous can try the scallops, shrimp or flounder---and we recommend it fried, not broiled. As for side dishes, the homemade coleslaw, salty fried pickles and hush puppies are all winners. Wash it all down with a sweetened iced tea or a cold beer, and the waitress will think you're a regular.
