Pearl on the River Description:
Until now, Sacramento's riverfront eateries have catered mainly to the boating crowd, where live music, free-flowing beer and down-home food are the norm. Pearl on the River aims to go against the grain with its contemporary décor, attentive service and fresh, California cuisine. The "live" menu changes daily, with a focus on seafood and locally-grown produce. Starters include the typical fried calamari and chicken wings, but also several preparations of fresh oysters, Kobe sliders and crab cakes, the latter stuffed with flaky, flavorful crab meat and not overburdened by mayonnaise or heavy seasoning. As an entrée, the pepper-crusted Hawaiian ahi is well complemented by wasabi ginger butter and a simple side of roasted Yukon mashed potatoes and asparagus. The Niman Ranch Kobe sirloin is tender and flavorful, and would stand well on its own without the overpowering green peppercorn sauce. A highlight is the spectacular view of the Sacramento River; there are few better places around to watch the sun go down on a summer evening than on Pearl's outdoor deck.
