Vegetable Garden Description:
For more than a decade, The Vegetable Garden has wowed locals with its all-veggie, Buddhist-style Chinese food. Its lengthy menu, including several macrobiotic and Italian-inspired dishes, spans the breadth of Chinese cooking techniques: stir-fried, deep-fried, baked, steamed, and hot pot dishes. To stave off patron curiosity, the menu contains several color photos of some of the more exotic fare. The menu also stars with a heart those dishes recommended as heart-healthful by Suburban Hospital. Meals begin with a gratis wedge of Chinese-style carrot bread, a teaser for such upcoming fare as the spring rolls or dumplings appetizers and General Tsao's 'chicken' or the rich, flavorful eggplant hot pot. Desserts include several Western treats such as carrot cake and Key lime pie. Fresh-squeezed juices, some organic, and assorted teas, beers and wines complement meals. Not surprisingly, both local and national media call this one of the country's best vegetarian restaurants.
