Greek Taverna Description:
Great things come in small packages, as this tidy little Greek eatery proves. Indeed, with its accompanying on-premise bakery, patrons are assured that the very best and freshest, all-around Greek food is at your fingertips. While not declaring itself a haute-cuisine destination, the restaurant does provide solid, no-flair fare. Sit down to a robust midday meal, complete with the cold skordalia (mashed potatoes with garlic) served with pita for dunking as a start, though hot appetizers---from saganaki to spanakopita---are also on the menu. Not surprisingly, the chef does a bang-up job with the gyro sandwich or platter and he fairly shines with the full-sized spanakopita, a phyllo entrée that's a bit tricky to make successfully. We would have loved a lamb dish of some sort, but the kitchen takes its seafood offerings very seriously. Since the bakery busily churns out Greek pastries, you'd be best served ordering something like its baklava, which we vote the best in town, or the galaktaboureko, the Greek's answer to a custard pie.
