El Patio Description:
Postage-stamp small yet invitingly exotic, this eatery parades before the public a full array of Argentinean family-style cooking, a rare commodity in these parts. Indeed, families head here in droves, and Sunday mornings look like a community hoe-down minus the dance floor. Note that the menu sticks to lighter fare (no fire-grilled slabs of beef) such as hot and cold sandwiches, Argentinean tea sandwiches, empañadas, traditional Argentinean quiches, and Spanish tortillas. We tucked into the lomito, a hefty steak sandwich, followed by savory empañadas filled with beef, chicken or ham and cheese, and a large chunk of the ham and cheese quiche, so filling we took home plenty of leftovers. A display case of pastries beckons, but the star here is the kitchen’s milhojas, a many-layered pastry cake filled with caramel.
