Cuban Corner Description:
Crowds reflect a growing American interest in Cuban cooking, which sounds similar to Tex-Mex fare, but is pure Caribbean in essence. Try the empanadas de carne and the tostones if you doubt it. Go for other Cuban specialties, too: the ropa vieja of shredded stewed flank steak that resembles old rags, and the holiday dish, puerco asado, of roasted pork doused with a vinegary sauce. There are plenty of other island choices---from fried fish to shrimp cooked with fresh tomatoes, capers and wine---so dig in and eat. Traditional desserts include flan, rum cake and medallions of egg in syrup. The whole experience is a tropical treat.
