Roland Fine Dining Description:
Fine Dining is in its name, but this white tablecloth storefront restaurant is friendly and relaxed. It's a Fan fave and that's saying something, since chef-owner-spouses Bruce and Virginia Rowland assumed a space long beloved as Stella's. They were handpicked by the prior owners, much as they carefully select the topnotch seasonal ingredients that go into the contemporary fare. The Rowlands (he's culinary, she's pastry) ran a restaurant on Pawleys Island, so it's not surprising to detect low country leanings. Expect watermelon salad in summer, crispy duckling with pumpkin ravioli in fall, and pan-seared sweet scallops with corn pudding you'll long for throughout the year. Warm bread is homemade and house salad is complimentary. A wooden banquette lines the perimeter, sharing tables with an eclectic, eccentric array of chairs including ladderbacks, moderns and what could pass as "fancy pants" patio. The pressed-tin ceiling pays homage to a rich past, as does a dessert of poached pear and pecan-cinnamon ice cream garnished with a star-shaped cookie called a Stella.
