Cafe Caturra Description:
What a concept. Picture a Starbucks as half of a Doolittle-esque "push-me-pull-you" with a wine bar at the other end. There's even a dash of Panera in the DNA. Order soups, salads, panini and milkshakes at one counter by day (or night) or head for the wine bar in the evening where they'll happily pour you a taste before you select wines by the glass or bottle that change periodically and congregate under headings such as heady whites and fruit bombs. Pair them with light bites including crostini and cheese platters. Even when the food reminds you that this is a chain---the vinaigrette cloys and the blue cheese rides a bit clumsily in the raspberry walnut salad---its freshness, along with the friendliness of the waitstaff who take your order, run food and clear plates, more than compensates. A server might even come by and ask if you want your dessert---perhaps a sweet-tooth satisfying chocolate top (shortbread cookie iced with chocolate)---heated. And best of all, the roasted-on-premises coffee, like some of the sophisticated singles here deep in hearthside conversation or accessing the Internet, is always available.
