Cafe Gutenberg Description:
Fun, seasonal tavern- style menu. Local ingredients, regional micro brews, brunch all day for carnivores and vegans. Artisal bread, ice cream, cheese, wine and Virginia meats and vegetables.
After a temporary hiatus, this cozy, local-centric spot has reopened. The books are gone with the wind, but the chefs bought the place so what matters most---the food---remains the same. If not better. Brunch and dinner are served whenever the café is open, so you can get a flat iron steak at 8 a.m. and a Belgian waffle at 10 p.m. Best of all, meat-eaters, vegans and everyone else on the spectrum can feast peaceably here (try the vegan cheesecake). Likewise, artisan microbrews and sophisticated imports float the crowd along with PBR, nicely detailed in a progressive list, and every wallet-friendly wine comes by the bottle or glass. Menu items include grilled bratwurst and a tofu banh mi sandwich with a pineapple-jalapeño reduction. The tofu Caesar salad is still hailed, but has been reconfigured into a deliriously tasty sandwich, too. Ingredients from the neighborhood (the farmers market is across the street) figure prominently, and even the art on the wall is local.
