Puerini is an Italian-American classic. It's in Newport but in or out of season draws a crowd from Providence. The reason? Handmade pasta and dolce vita aplenty. The portrait of Marie Puerini, the grandmother of chef-owner Daniel, hangs proudly on the wall, and the same kind of generous spirit shows up in the food. It's not fancy, just good, heaping plates of fresh fettuccine, a dozen-plus veal dishes and polenta preparations daily. There's decent Italian red wine on the list and Portuguese vinho verde to please the locals.
