Scali Ristorante Description:
The atmosphere is top notch, white linen tablecloths, fine service, murals painted on one or two walls, Italian decor and an open kitchen where the family pays close attention to detail. The cost is somewhat higher than other Italian restaurants, however the food is prepared with great care. Reservations are recommended, however you can walk in on a less busy night.
Scali is a Mecca for better-than-red-sauce Italian on the far east side of Columbus. Mamma bakes the breads, works the tables and warms up the otherwise straightforward, but pleasantly bright, décor. Her son Frank commands the open kitchen and, while he does a very credible job with such staples as wedding soup and veal piccata, his daily offerings are the place to start. We recommend the LuLu---linguine tossed with shrimp, crab and fresh tomatoes in a mascarpone cream sauce. The wine list's Italian selection has steadily grown, is priced significantly lower than average and features nearly a dozen Chiantis. A good way to finish your meal is with a homemade dessert like tiramisu, cannoli or panna cotta.
