St Jacques French Cuisine Description:
Before opening his Raleigh restaurant, chef-owner Lil Lacassagne trained with the legendary Roger Vergé at Le Moulin de Mougins in the south of France. He brings to the Triangle area the classic flavors and warm hospitality of that gastronomically rich corner of the world. Saint Jacques' seasonally evolving menu includes Provençal favorites such as ratatouille, pâté de campagne, escargots, and onion soup with earthy Gruyère. Main courses may be pan-seared sweetbreads atop an onion-and-goat cheese tart, duck à l'orange with a braised leek and potato ragoût, and the restaurant's namesake dish featuring pan-seared scallops with smoked bacon and a fennel gratin. Desserts, such as tarte Tatin and chocolate mousse, are just as delightful. The wine list is modest but well chosen, and service is polished---which should come as no surprise, given the affable owner.
