Stanley's Description:
Stanley's has been around since 1932 and coasts a bit on its reputation. Many a Rhode Island office worker would sneak off to the original Central Falls location for a greasy indulgence, only to be betrayed by the clinging aroma of grilled onions upon their return to work. At the burger joint's Technicolor outpost in Providence's Jewelry District, the basic concept that made Stanley's an Ocean State legend is still in place: hand-formed, inexpensive ($1.99 for a plain) hamburgers hot off the grill and topped with free onions and pickles. Like the décor, the menu is mostly standard diner stuff---french fries, onion rings, chili, chicken nuggets---though there's a few quirky items, too, like Québec-style fries with cheese curd and brown gravy and a decent selection of fried seafood. A milk shake makes it all go down smoothly.
