Clyde Common Description:
Communal dining has busted out of the school cafeteria and found a hip, new home. With the eclectic gathering of foodies, friends, hipsters and hippies here, you never know who you'll meet. The room, adjacent to the über-cool Ace Hotel, shouts with urban Portland style, including floor-to-ceiling windows, an open kitchen, a zinc-topped bar, and plenty of wood accents. The menu announces "Domestic and Foreign Cooking," which is difficult to classify but easy to enjoy. There is a Mediterranean twist and some European influences blended with Pacific Northwest inventiveness. The ravioli is stuffed with chicken liver, while the fries come with two dipping sauces: crème fraîche and hot harissa. Seasonal salads are beautifully composed flights of fancy such as one bursting with shaved fennel, cara cara orange, oil-cured olives and grana padano. A nicely varied and affordable wine list enhances the menu. Diners seeking a purely contemporary Portland experience need look no further.
