Darrel & Oliver's Cafe Maxx Description:
Café Maxx has been around for twenty years now, which makes it something of an institution. Chef Oliver Saucy, one of the founders of New World cuisine, took over with partner Darrel Brock in 1988, and his imaginative and innovative cuisine seems destined to outlast any trendy tag applied to it. Using the freshest of local ingredients, Saucy produces a daily-changing menu rife with Asian and Caribbean accents. No guarantee what will be offered on any given night, but expect regional fish like yellowtail snapper, perhaps crusted with caramelized onions and pooled in velvety Madeira sauce; or white-fleshed hog snapper with mango glaze and toasted macadamia nuts. Meats are top-quality, too, whether pepper-crusted filet mignon or a thick grilled veal chop with wild mushrooms. Desserts are no less impressive---try raspberry-marzipan cheesecake, or for a cleaner end-note, grapefruit sorbet. The wine list boasts over 300 labels and patrons are urged to sample selections at the in-house wine bar. What else makes Darrel & Oliver's one of Broward's best restaurants?
