Yo Rita Description:
In its previous incarnation, Yo Rita was a South Side watering hole, The Iguana Grille. Then owner Jacqueline White invited the talented, innovative chef Kevin Sousa to tackle the kitchen. His remake cast the small restaurant into a contemporary culinary hot-spot. There is a small selection of appetizers---including ceviche---soups and salads. But the seasonal menu focuses on creative soft-shell flour-tortilla tacos with inspired fillings that touch but briefly on Mexican influence. Sophisticated flavors and quality ingredients produce options such as duck, with sweet potatoes, jalapeño peppers, fig chutney, scallions and cilantro; walleyed pike, with tamarind soy sauce, diced watermelon, pineapple, tomatoes and cucumbers; and black-eyed peas with sautéed spinach, corn, goat cheese and garlic oil. Specials explore an array of foods---beets, calamari, pork belly, tongue and cock's comb. There's a small wine-by-the-glass program as well as beer on tap, a treasure trove of tequilas and specialty cocktails using fresh juices.
