Point Brugge Cafe Description:
A corner building, in quiet Point Breeze, once housed The Point, a well-liked lounge. Today, the petite venue still magnetizes its East End community with honest food and a cozy bistro ambience. Given a no-reservation policy and only 40 seats---plus a few outside in good weather---expect to queue and amiably mingle. The small menu highlights Belgian classics such as carbonnade Flamande, waterzoii, steak frites and moules frites, as well as a line-up of Belgian beers. You can get your mussels in one of three versions, and basil mayo accompanies the twice-cooked french-fried potatoes. But the kitchen also ventures to other locales, including Cuba and Asia, and explores the realm of trendy small plates. Desserts, by pastry chef Susie Treon, are special comforts.
