Executive chef Rick DeShantz delivers an elegant ambience and cutting-edge cuisine at his high profile Nine on Nine. A trained artist and passionate chef, DeShantz partnered with designer Courtney Lynch to apply discriminating taste to the selection of every detail---from the cool palette of navy, silver and white, to the Riedel glassware, hefty utensils and handsome china. Well-trained servers, wearing long white French bistro aprons, tune in amiably to the restaurant's sophisticated vibes. The kitchen translates American dishes into contemporary statements---focusing sharply on quality ingredients. Lunch brings Kobe burgers on house-made rolls or, perhaps, a panino of rosemary ham with grilled asparagus and herbed, truffled Brie served with a cup of fresh tomato soup. In the evening, the main dining room serves an à la carte menu, a six-course Chef's Tasting menu ($65) and a three-course theater menu ($35). At the Chef's Table, DeShantz personally cooks a selection of nine courses ($89). The selections are seasonal and market-driven, but signatures include squab, leg confit, with butternut squash ravioli, collard greens and crumbled amaretti; and risotto with wild mushrooms, truffles and porcini oil. The adjacent Bar Nine serves trendy cocktails, creative small plates and items à la carte from the main menu.
