Perched high atop Mt. Washington, in a quirky two-story building that once was a private home, Isabela on Grandview yields an upscale yet relaxed experience. Different ownership adds a second chef and a needed spiffing up of the décor. The small restaurant seats approximately 50 on two floors. At each level, large square windows frame dazzling views of the Golden Triangle and the three rivers. The restaurant's scale and intimacy, unique in this Grandview neighborhood, makes the view all the more exceptional. On the first floor, a handcrafted bar presides over a lounge setting. Upstairs, a lively open kitchen generates excitement. Smooth service facilitates the unfurling of the fixed price ($70) seven-course tasting menu. The restaurant also offers a fixed price flight of four wines ($40) matched to the meal. Monday through Friday, there's also an à la carte menu. Animating flavors, co-chefs give innovative twists to American dishes. Seasonal specials include chestnut ravioli with black truffles and clotted cream; pan-seared barramundi with Brussels sprouts, bacon and Champagne beurre blanc; and roasted pork tenderloin with cumin butternut squash marmalade and wheat berry couscous pilaf.
