Cafe Zao Description:
It's always show time for illustrious chef-restaurateur Toni Pais. Partnering with The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, the Portugal-born Pais opened Café Zao, in Theater Square, in the heart of the Cultural District. The restaurant gives theater-goers cause for applause, with both pre- and post-curtain dining options. A serene ambience boasts contemporary décor---sky blue silk on the walls, chocolate suede chairs and banquettes, and a sophisticated bar. The menu, previously targeting Portugal and its former colonies, now revisits diners' favorite dishes over the past 20 years, including many from Pais' now closed Baum Vivant restaurant. Some of the requested dishes now available are the pear stuffed with duck liver mousse in puff pastry; Dover sole, with sautéed banana; mariscado, the Portuguese version of seafood stew; and lobster steamed in cabbage, with caviar beurre blanc. Select from a large collection of Portuguese and American wines, and enjoy having hassle-free, restaurant-validated parking.
