Cross Keys Inn Description:
Experienced restaurateurs, owners-brothers Robert and chef Michael Uricchio have reclaimed the charm of an 1850-built inn that had sunk into desperate disrepair. The historic Cross Keys Inn is now an inviting neighborhood restaurant. The concept: good food in a relaxed atmosphere at reasonable prices. Of course the quality of the food is so high, the ambience so appealing and the menu so flexible that the restaurant---with its dining room, taproom, lounge and assorted private dining spaces---draws clientele from across the city. Customers can stop by for a cocktail and a bite, choose light fare or a burger or gather for a pull-out-all-stops full meal. The kitchen offers grilled meats and seafood, inventive pastas, satisfying soups, salads and desserts---all with nods to the comfort factor, but also with chef-inspiration and premium ingredients. Some favorites: grilled Tasmanian salmon, with baby bok choy and jasmine rice; veal osso buco, with roasted vegetables and a rich jus; the eight-ounce Kobe and Angus burger, grilled and topped with pulled pork, caramelized onions, apple wood-smoked bacon and a choice of cheese. Pastry chef Candace Uricchio designs enticing desserts. Try chocolate cheesecake or the mixed fruit crumble.
