For owners Jeff Iovino, who is the chef, and his wife, Carol, who runs the front of the house, the café fulfills a dream. The décor is modern and minimalist, spacing is tight, and the noise level, unsurprisingly, tests diners' decibel tolerance. But regulars pack the place seeking comfortable favorites and the kitchen's bent for creative adventure. Lighter fare appears for lunch. Dinner makes major forays into an eclectic, seasonal banquet of innovative international flavors. Choices range from pan-seared Alaskan halibut with garlic spinach, white beans, country ham and basil lemon butter to locally made sheep's milk ricotta gnocchi, with braised lamb ragù, onions, garlic, rapini and shaved Parmesan. With no liquor license, it's BYOB and a $4 stem fee.
