Cafe Zinho Description:
A vibrant spot on a quiet street, Cafe Zinho captures the essence of a neighborhood bistro. The clientele ranges from the young and the pierced to the coifed ladies of Shadyside and graying academic couples from nearby universities. Birthed in a former garage, the bistro flaunts funky décor (odds and ends of tables and chairs, flea market and antique shop finds). Multicolored glass chandeliers and great swags of tasseled drapes lend drama. The relaxed but stylish à la carte menu runs seasonal soups, salads, sandwiches, dinner entrées and house-made desserts. If the Kobe beef burger is on the menu, grab it. Also try the escargots, crab cakes or the roasted half duck with Grand Marnier sauce. Service can be quirky, and ebullient conversations elevate the noise level. But it's a welcome social scene. BYOB. Also bring cash (no credit cards).

Review :
I have wanted to try Cafe Zinho for a while now. It always looks very inviting when I pass. Over the summer I was thinking of taking some friends here. Last night I decided to try it out for myself. The staff was friendly, attentive and jovial from the moment we walked in the door. Even without reservations and a full restaurant on New Year's Eve they made room for us and were very accommodating. The wait staff was attentive, but not overly so. The highlight of this upscale, yet earthy restaurant is the food. Each person in my group of four ordered something different and everything was truly superb. I have not had better duck anywhere in the city. I will definitely be going back to Cafe Zinho and highly recommend it to anyone for an intimate couples dinner or for a small group. The combination of service - a sophisticated yet unpretentious atmosphere and delicious food make this a true gem in my mind. It is nice to experience fine dining in a place where you can relax, where there is a little more character than usual and where you can look around and see something more interesting than a vase flower arrangement.
