Christopers Restaurant & Crush Description:
Christopher Gross' eponymous restaurant will remind you that he's a famous chef. The walls are dotted with awards and photos of him and his sommelier partner, Paola Embry, schmoozing with everyone from Charlie Trotter and Emeril to Jacques Pépin and Julia Child. But it's the food that proves the celebrity is cooking deep. The chef pairs three concepts in his operation. "One" is a French bistro with casual classics like wild mushroom soup with foie gras and hanger steak alongside Gallic specialties such as pied de cochon (pigs' trotters). Daily specials include rabbit on Saturdays and frogs' legs on Sundays. "Two" is the Crush Lounge wine bar with an after-hours menu until 2 a.m. nightly. "Three" is a small, fine-dining section within the restaurant, called C144. (The "C" is for Christopher; 144 means a "gross.") Limited to 12 diners, meals are elaborate, expensive and pure magical Christopher, paired with Paola's extraordinary wines from a list that may be the best in the Valley.
