Radio Milano Description:
La Grande Orange. Postino Winecafe. Chelsea's Kitchen. All are hits with the well-heeled Slow Food crowd in Phoenix, and all are owned by LGO Hospitality. Enter LGO's Radio Milano, a sleek, big city Italian restaurant-bar combo. It's hard to tell which aspect is more important---the small plates designed for sharing (call them big appetizers or small entrées) or the drinks (they're pricey but oh-so potent). Factor in the beautiful people crowd and the European-chic setting and it's a place that's shouts style. Chef Chris Newstrom follows the seasons, with simple but striking dishes like a vegetable plate (perhaps roasted peppers, grilled asparagus, fennel, bean salad, fresh mozzarella and fried mozzarella), wild mushroom meatloaf, homemade pasta of the day, and moist olive oil cake with citrus zest, licorice, homemade jam and thickened cream. The only thing that might not go down easy is the final tab. It's easy (and with such small portions, recommended) to order everything, but prices do add up fast.
