Zahav Description:
Against the glow of honey-colored Jerusalem stone, Zahav (which means gold in Hebrew) showcases chef Michael Solomonov's love for the foods of his homeland. A partnership between restaurateur Steven Cook and Solomonov, Zahav reflects the chef's Israeli roots with both its casual meze-centered menu and in a separate Quarter dining room, regular special events showcasing the gastronomies of Morocco, Turkey, Yemen, Lebanon, Egypt and the Baltics. Whet your appetite with an inventive cocktail (try an Israeli Salad on the rocks) before scooping up the flavorful, chickpea-studded masbacha hummus (one of four hummus varieties) served with homemade flatbread. Sample hot and cold meze---don't miss the grilled sheep's milk cheese sweetened with bits of date---before moving on to the restaurant's signature coal-fired kebabs, including a skewer of baby eggplant with tahini and pistachio.
