A tavern for more than 75 years, this spot boasts an original elaborate tin ceiling, stained-glass windows and handsome Jugendstil-style fixtures. Chef Bill Strobel puts out tasty American and Euro-influenced food, from powerhouse burgers to trout schnitzel with mustard-scented spätzle and a wonderful French farmer's stew with duck confit and spicy sausage. Expect a friendly reception, and a waiter who knows the reasonable wine list. There's always something going on at the bar, from Quizzo to live jazz.
