Il Portico Description:
Named after the Jewish ghetto in Rome near the home where owner Alberto Delbello was born and raised, Il Portico showcases Tuscan-style cuisine with a special emphasis on truffles. Polished wood paneling reflects the iridescent chandeliers; the waiters move competently in the hushed ambience. The menu has a number of carpaccios, seafood and beef dishes and an addictive homemade matzo, grilled, dusted with herbs, and served with Tuscan olive oil and baby artichokes Jewish style---sautéed in garlic and oil. The special mazagna---lasagna made with béchamel sauce and artichokes---may appear in the spring, and appear at the Seders that Delbello prepares at Passover. These are unique feasts, and must be booked well in advance. Of course, baby lamb chops or boneless quail in a sauce of red wine and spices may be had at any time with wine from the extensive (not inexpensive) list---say, a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo? Desserts are always enticing, especially the tiramisu. Delbello opened Club Adesso, an upstairs dance club overlooking Walnut Street, which features both live music and DJs.
