Le Chateaubriand Description:
Established in 2006 by Frédéric Penau and chef Inaki Aizpitarte, Le Chateaubriand is, despite appearances, a bistro unlike any other. The cuisine is simple and wholesome at lunchtime, but it becomes fashionable and elaborate in the evening: black pudding with baked apple, herring salad, saddle of lamb with potatoes in olive oil, tapas, bo bun, Basque cheese, chef's mashed bananas ... all with a large selection of wines.
An inexpensive fixed menu is available at lunchtime.
Iñaki Aizpitarte has reclaimed this historic bistro, between the Saint-Martin canal and Oberkampf. Formerly at Famille (in the 18th arrondissement), Transversal, and the restaurant of Mac/Val at Vitry-Sur-Seine, he has taken care not to change the décor of this genuine small café of "Parisian kids." The dishes bring the necessary modernism instead that make all trendy Parisians come. At dinner, the menu levies €40 for five dishes, all that regale patrons with unexpected but balanced associations: sections of eel with orange juice and olive oil, warm cockles and mussels "à l'héliantis," teriyaki salmon, peppered mint lamb tagine, and chocolate desserts. Shorter and more traditional carte at lunch (menu at €14).
