La Closerie des Lilas Description:
The literal translation of the name of this veritable institution is "pleasure garden of lilies," because a Mr. Bullier planted thousands of lilies here in the nineteenth century. Hangout of the likes of Hemingway and numerous members of the Lost Generation, the charm of its luxuriant bowers does not entirely make up for an overly-complicated, out-of-fashion and high-priced cuisine. You'll get more for your money in the brasserie than in the restaurant: try the steak tartare and french fries (€18). The restaurant offers chips "Pont-Neuf" that are paired with the pepper beef tenderloin "Hemingway" (€38), flamed with bourbon at your table. Piano music in the evening.
