Le Languedoc Description:
Travel back in time at Le Languedoc, a name derived from the southernmost province in France, bordering the Mediterranean and rubbing shoulders with the Pyrennées mountains. This southwestern-inspired restaurant is appropriately decorated with red-checkered curtains, old chandeliers, copper pans hooked on the walls, and antique yokes that hang from the ceiling. The owner and his father, both wearing aprons around their waist, are busy in the dining room while the owner's wife brews coffee, serves wine and issues checks; the mother-in-law reigns over her domain in the kitchen. The clientele consists mainly of doctors from the neighboring hospitals who enjoy the bistro-style menu offered at this establishment. The «œuf dur mayonnaise» is classic and well-priced at €2. The herring filets with lukewarm steamed potatoes are smooth, tender and perfectly seasoned with salt. The cauliflower in vinaigrette is crispy and flavorful. The tenderloin au poivre flambé, juicy and tender, is prepared with cognac, a time-old tradition, and is served with homemade french fries. Finish off the meal with the pêche Melba. The wine list is eclectic and the prices unbeatable.
