Chakra takes its name from the Indian word for vortices of energy in the human body that link the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual into an indivisible whole. Try putting that on a menu. They've done it quite admirably at this exotic and fascinating restaurant. The cavernous dining room is reminiscent of an ancient temple complete with Hindu bas-relief sculptures along the walls. With such a theatrical approach to décor, one might worry that the food is a mere afterthought, but one would be wrong. American sensibilities hold sway, but the food is enhanced with international touches, ingredients and style. Sashimi and sushi are a permanent menu category. And while there are good choices throughout, the seafood excels. Desserts do not disappoint. Chakra hosts monthly multi-course wine dinners celebrating various wine-growing regions as well as wine tastings and other special events that pair the restaurant's cuisine with high-profile wines.
