What's in a name? Well, in this case, exactly what you need to know. This friendly café in the heart of downtown Palo Alto serves some of the finest gyros on the Peninsula. The best of the lot is the succulent lamb and beef gyro. But the lean, yet juicy, chicken gyro is nearly as good. Size matters at Gyros Gyros. To put it bluntly, the gyros are absolutely humongous and, for many, simply too much to finish in one sitting. The restaurant also whips up a fine falafel, with golf ball-sized mounds that are crispy, yet not too dry. Diners will also find such Mediterranean specialties as spanakopita, moussaka and tiropita. Don't miss the intensely flavorful charcoal-grilled shish kebab sandwiches. This is a popular destination with the workday lunch crowd, but it also draws a good deal of night owls, given that Gyros Gyros is one of the few places in downtown Palo Alto that serves food until 11 p.m.
