Janta Indian Cuisine Description:
Janta is perhaps best known as a popular weekday lunch spot. Folks working in the downtown Palo Alto area flock to the cozy restaurant around noon to take advantage of the reasonably priced lunch buffet. The restaurant does enough business with its buffet to ensure that the selections are all reasonably fresh, as opposed to just sitting under heat lamps for hours. Janta, which is housed in an old adobe home around the corner from bustling University Avenue, is an attractive alternative to the plethora of Indian restaurants that dot strip malls around the South Bay and Peninsula. It also offers a shaded patio that is a fine location to enjoy lunch on a warm day. As good a spot as Janta is for lunch, it's an even better destination for dinner. Look for fiery curry dishes and the tandoori plates. Perhaps the best item on the menu is the shrimp vindaloo.
