Augusta Restaurant Description:
Founded by local jewelry designer and gallery owner Denise Robergé, this one-of-a-kind enclave has gone through some major changes. The restaurant has withdrawn to the lovely outdoor dining area, patio and bar, leaving the main room to a cutting edge clothing boutique, an appropriate partner to Robergé's gallery. This is one of the prettiest places to lunch in the desert, and the midday business reflects that, though evening trade is quieter. The lunch menu emphasizes salads (wilted spinach with chicken livers, for example). Dinner is where the chef rolls out his more ambitious items, such as the signature appetizer, oysters "Augusta," which are wrapped in spinach, poached with black truffle juice, crispy bacon and leeks. Entrées include John Dory in phyllo, sake-marinated sea bass and chicken Florentine with sun-dried tomatoes and chipotle sauce.
