Funky Monkey Wine Company Description:
Forget the silly name and do your best to overlook the location on busy Mills Avenue and scant parking options (you're lucky if you find a spot on the street, and there's no parking lot). But if you make it in the door, you'll be among the grateful customers enjoying sophisticated creations in the small dining room with just a handful of tables. It's a tight space with subdued lighting, but there's a neighborhood friendliness to the place as chefs make their way from table to table, greeting plenty of diners by name. The menu is eclectic, and designer sushi rolls are a menu favorite---but there's no sushi bar, it all comes out of the kitchen (and all sushi rolls are half price on Mondays). Nibble on starters such as truffle-salted fries with blue cheese crumbles or an Asian-inspired tuna and avocado salad with spicy mayo. Entrées standouts include a juicy burger made with locally farmed beef, and seared jumbo scallops served with lobster mashed potatoes and a sauce made from microbrew beer. Chef-owner-sommelier Eddie Nickell put together a thoughtful wine list that nicely matches the food.
