Chatham's Place Description:
Loyal locals still trek to Chatham's Place, even though Louis Chatham and his mother Bettye haven't been part of the team for many years. But chef-owner Tony Lopez was part of the original Chatham crew and has managed to keep the first-rate reputation alive for nearly 20 years, with neighborhood regulars and conventioneers from nearby International Drive filling many of the tables in the 80-seat dining room. The menu is manageable with just a half-dozen or so entrées; the Florida black grouper with rich pecan butter is a hands-down favorite. The duck breast, with a sweet-savory sauce of port wine and blueberries, is also a good choice. Before the meal, enjoy the warm bread with a feta cheese and sour cream spread; the sautéed crab cappellini is a filling but tasty appetizer. The wine list is impressive, with a "sommelier selection" of small production wines from around the world. And with an offering of more than three dozen dessert wines, ports, sherries and cordials, you may just drink your dessert. Tucked in the corner on the first floor of a nondescript office building, Chatham's is a delightful detour from the glitz of nearby Restaurant Row.
