Pom Pom Tea House Description:
Tucked in an unassuming shopping center on Bumby between Colonial Drive and the East-West Expressway on the fringe of downtown, quirky Pom Pom's offers a creative selection of freshly made sandwiches. Our favorites are the colossal PBJ, with peanut butter, strawberry jelly, banana slices and marshmallow fluff; the spiced curry chicken salad with apples and almonds; and the fu man chu, piled with Asian pulled pork, Asian slaw and ginger-cranberry chutney. The salads are a little less creative, but tasty nonetheless. And anything tossed with the decadent creamy miso-Caesar dressing is worth a taste. Breakfast is a weekends-only deal, with oddly wonderful hours: from 11 p.m. on Friday through noon Saturday and again from 11 p.m. Saturday through 4 p.m. on Sunday (Pom Pom's is open 24 hours on the weekends). The potato napoleons---a stack of herbed potato pancakes topped with anything from smoked salmon and cream cheese to roasted red peppers and basil hollandaise---is a fine late-night nosh or early-morning indulgence.
