The stretch of Sand Lake Road near busy International Drive offers diverse cuisine, from Cuban to Thai, New American to traditional Italian, and Cantina Laredo adds to the mix with upscale Mexican---the spacious restaurant is tucked back off the road, so it's easy to miss. But if you're seeking a decent margarita or guacamole made fresh at the table (purists won't love the tomatoes, so ask them to nix), Cantina Laredo is a good recommendation. The menu is pricey, but you're paying for good service and fresh ingredients, not gargantuan burritos. There are tacos, enchiladas and an addictive roasted tomatillo salsa served with complimentary chips, but you can stretch your idea of Mexican with creations such as grilled chicken breast stuffed with shrimp, topped with sautéed spinach and chipotle-wine sauce, or the sliced filet mignon with garlicky chimichurri sauce. Fresh fish always is on the menu. Sunday brunch has a Mexican twist, with crab cakes Benedict with chipotle-wine hollandaise, or the spinach and artichoke omelet with poblano sauce. Sweets include flan, apple pie with brandy butter and ice cream and apple crêpes. There's a full bar with an expansive selection of tequilas.
