The umbrella-clad patio at Bal Harbour Bistro is nestled among the Chanel, Prada, Gucci and Ferragamo shops in opulent Bal Harbor, offering a view of the parade of wealthy locals. Expect stiff, old-school food and service. Sip endless refills of iced tea and lunch on old-time favorites. Plentiful and appealing salad plates feature curried chicken salad, avocado with crab meat, plus a chef's salad and a classic spinach salad. Also trustworthy are the cold poached salmon and buttery croque-monsieur. We found such items much more worthy of our appetite than the pastas or pastries. For dessert, sip on cappuccino and nibble fresh berries.
