Prairie Grass Café Description:
A sense of order prevails at this pleasant eatery. The owners, Sarah Stegner, George Bumbaris and Rohit Nambiar---the two former from The Dining Room at The Ritz-Carlton, Chicago, the latter from the Four Seasons---bring a whole lot of restaurant experience to the table, and it shows. Service is proficient and professional. The contemporary American menu is geared toward comfort food that blends with a sense of adventure. Crispy salmon lettuce wraps, for example, pair with peanut-laced Asian noodle salad. Italian sausage is meaty and plump and made in-house, and the sirloin burger is served open face. Pies are made by Stegner's mother; we recommend the apple and pecan varieties (especially the latter). The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, and the noise level is low. For a casual-cool meal, settle in at the bar, which has its own fancy but approachable menu.
