Lizard Café Description:
The colorful, cozy setting; the freshest, most local, seasonal ingredients; a friendly young waitstaff---all the components that make Bill Prince's Leaping Lizard Café on Shore Drive in Virginia Beach magical can be found at his location in downtown Norfolk. Connected to Prince Books---the charming bookstore long owned by his sister, Sarah Pishko---this spot edits out Leaping from the name. It's heaven for those who like to dig into a juicy novel along with a harvest salad bountiful with yellow squash, zucchini, cucumbers, mushrooms and feta. Lizard is full-service, and a good thing, too, since you'll want to linger over just-caught, dilled tuna on homemade rosemary bread and soup made fresh daily such as roasted chicken and cannellini beans. A simple-sounding ham and cucumber sandwich pays homage to local legend Edwards Surry ham. Leave room for an epilogue of just-baked cookies or pineapple-studded carrot cake. Prince added raised booths to window level, making the street-watching scenes as compelling as the nearby bestsellers.
